We don’t feature people here for crimes or acts of war. There are other places to call people out for those things, as well as courts and such. Besides, calling someone out for a crime for also being an asshole seems like it diminishes their crime. Occasionally we have made exceptions to that for people who have escaped responsibilities for their crime and then act like assholes about it. George Zimmerman signing autographs at a gun show is a good example of when we’ve done that.
So, with that in mind we get to Yochanan Gordon, who isn’t committing genocide, but is suggesting that Israel should under the headline “When Genocide Is Permissible”:
If political leaders and military experts determine that the only way to achieve its goal of sustaining quiet is through genocide is it then permissible to achieve those responsible goals?So it’s clear that he wasn’t just click-baiting, he really was advocating genocide.
The paper has since taken the op-ed down, saying “We reject any such notion or discussion associated with even entertaining the possibility of such an unacceptable idea.” It’s still not clear how they could have missed the headline, but at least they have pulled it.
Genocide is a horrible thing, and no one should be advocating for it (or publishing serious articles advocating it), but Yochanan Gordon did. And for that, he is Asshole of the Day.
It is Yochanan Gordon’s first time as Asshole of the Day.
