It’s getting harder and harder to satirize the most demented members of America’s right-wing fringes.
On the one hand, there’s crazy tweeter Donald Trump saying that Christians who contract Ebola while tending the afflicted in Africa must “suffer the consequences” and hateful hate-mongering hater Ann Coulter saying the Christian doctor stricken with Ebola was an idiot who never should have gone on his mission to Liberia in the first place.
On the other, there’s batshit crazy evangelist Rick Wiles saying that Christians should welcome Ebola spreading like a “plague” across America specifically because it would “solve America’s problems with atheism, homosexuality, sexual promiscuity, pornography and abortion.”
Of course, it’s easy to see why the adulterous Trump might have slightly different view than the plague-promoting Wiles. But at the same time, it’s just so hard to imagine why any Christian would rejoice at the prospect of tens (or hundreds) of millions of Americans dying in extreme agony from one of the world’s deadliest diseases. (We won’t even bother trying to dissect the lunacy of Wiles’ theory that only sinners get Ebola, when we already know that some of the world’s most selfless Christians are afflicted.)
This is Wiles’ first time as Asshole of the Day.
